Merritt Emerson Kropinske

Born - Sept 19, 1931 at Consort, AB

Passed Away - July 23, 2017 at Coronation, AB

Lived 85 years

He was the fourth child of George and Ethel Kropinske of Consort, AB. Merritt was raised on the family farm 3 ½ miles south of Consort. He took his schooling grades 1-12 in Consort. After completing grade 12 he attended Olds College, where he learned many trades, which he used all of his life.

He was a very quiet hard working man. He was married to Catherine Miller of Altario, AB. Together they made their life on an acreage east of the family farm. Catherine passed away December 4, 2003.

He took great pride in his garden/flowers, etc. He grew many many bedding out plants and tomatoes. He also grew rows and rows of potatoes for family and friends and the community. He also had a variety of fruit trees, apples, plums, strawberries and raspberries. He raised chickens and sold eggs. He also had honey bees for a number of years, which he enjoyed. He traveled many miles to deliver his delicious honey.

Merritt also enjoyed working with wood. He and his friends made many assorted crafts, Christmas, summer, etc, then they traveled together to display and sell their crafts at many markets. He also volunteered for various places in Consort for Steve and Craig doing a number of jobs for them. His last job was working at Monitor for the garbage transfer station. There in his spare time he had pet gophers that became his special pets. He also spent many hours removing nails and cutting pallets for firewood. He took great pride in collecting and displaying his “Teddy Bears”. He had a great love for his cats- Felix and Sammy, also his dog “Jackie”. He also was a collector of various caps and mint money sets each year. He also loved cards and bingo. He enjoyed helping “The Days” moving cattle to and from pasture to pasture. He called himself “The Grub Man”. He was always there to give his friends a hand with anything they might need help with.

In his later years he began to have health problems. His friends Sharon and Marj stepped up to help him such as making and driving him to and from his appointments. This lead to more care so he entered the Continuing Care Facility in Coronation for the last 4 years, which he was wonderfully cared for. When able to, he enjoyed taking part in all the activities they offered- bingo, cards, etc. He made dear friends with Paige, Vicky and Averil. “Thanks girls”. He loved to sing- his favorite song “Old Shep”.

Merritt passed peacefully away July 23, 2017 at Coronation, AB. He was predeceased by his parents- George and Ethel Kropinske, brothers Alfred, Earl.
