BENSON, Averil Elaine
1935 – 2021
Averil Elaine Benson was born September 26, 1935, in Unity, Saskatchewan. As an adult Averil moved to Saskatoon and worked in a groceteria and the hospital prior to making the move west to Coronation, Alberta where both her and Earl worked in the oilfield. Throughout her entire life, Averil was quite athletic. In her younger years she enjoyed softball but through adulthood she found joy in participating in bowling and curling. Averil bowled until she was 80, quitting only when she could no longer keep her 190 average. Even though she wasn’t on the field, Averil remained a fan of ball and cheered the kids, grandkids, and the Blue Jays on for all her years. After moving into the Designated Supportive Living (DSL) less than two years ago, at 86 years of age Averil passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2021.
Averil is survived by her loving family; daughter, Lu-Anne (Randy) Sulz of Montgomery, Texas; two step sons, Glen Francis and Terry Francis; grandchildren, Tabatha (†Pete) Nolen of Needville, Texas, Nicki (Kevin) Stidham of Montgomery, Texas, Shauna Jones of Boise, Idaho, Barrie (Kristie) Pengelly of Coronation, Alberta, Bridget (Jason) Anquist of Pigeon Lake, Alberta, Bradley Pengelly of Castor, Alberta, and Dylan (Trista) Moores of Wainwright, Alberta; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as her bowling friends and neighbours.
Averil was predeceased by her husband, Earl Francis and her daughter, Heather Pengelly.
In light of the current government restrictions for large gatherings, a limited attendance Funeral Service will take place at the Coronation Community Centre on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.
