Edward Rostad Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Edward Kenneth Rostad at the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre, Coronation, Alberta on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the age of 93 years.

Edward grew up on a farm near Southey, Saskatchewan, with his parents and nine siblings. As a young adult, he attended Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, Saskatchewan and obtained a B.A. Degree from the University of Saskatchewan. He then attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary and was ordained on June 10, 1951. Thereafter, he began his career of devoted service to the Church Parishioners he cared so deeply about.

As a Lutheran Minister, Edward served the congregations in Chaplain, Saskatchewan, Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Redeemer), London, Ontario (Mission), Medicine Hat, Alberta (Grace Lutheran), Yellowknife, NWT, Watrous, Saskatchewan and Calgary, Alberta (Sharon). Edward also served on the Board of Regents of Camrose Lutheran College for thirteen years and the Board of LCBI for two years. Edward retired from the Ministry in 1990, due to vision problems related to Macular Degeneration.

As far as Edward’s family life was concerned, he was blessed to meet his soulmate, Mary at Bible Camp and married her on August 25, 1951. By 1966, they had seven children together, two sons and five daughters; a very busy household guided by a kind and loving father, who dedicated himself to supporting and caring for his family. Edward and Mary celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary on August 25, 2020.

For the last thirty years of his life, Edward was legally blind; yet lived life fully, going for walks, spending time with Mary and his children, whenever possible and in particular, treasuring his time spent with family on the Thacker Ranch, (Joey and Wayne) in Coronation. Edward was an educated man with keen insights into world events, financial strategies and a desire to understand others and their personal stories. He was also an ardent sports enthusiast, playing basketball and baseball as a younger man, and watching the Blue Jays and Saskatchewan Roughriders etc., in later years. Above all, he was a kind, wise and gentle man who put family and his faith in God first, and was well loved and admired by all who knew him.

Edward will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary, his son, Keith and his five daughters, Terryl (Rea), Faith (Claudia), Wendy (Norm), Jolene (Wayne) and Jeaniene (Rodney), his seven grandchildren, Jens, Jennifer, Michael (Susan), Ben (Adan), Kyle (Roxanne), JJ (Hilary) and Emery and his three great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Theo and Avia. Edward will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Olaf, John and Harold, and his sisters, Vi and Muriel.

Edward was predeceased by a son, Dale, his brothers, Lloyd and Joe, and his sisters, Cam and Joyce.

A live streamed Funeral Service will be held at a future date, yet to be determined.
